Career Technical Education(CTE)involves a multiyear sequence of courses that integrate core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to postsecondary education and careers.
Career Technical Education facilitates students in making a successful transition from secondary education to college and career. The overriding vision is to incorporate 21st century skills that truly prepare students to succeed in post secondary education, the workplace, and community life, keeping America internationally competitive. The San Diego Unified School District's Career and Technical Education Program leads the District's efforts to improve student achievement via various initiatives.
Our Tech Prep programs focus on developing technical skills for secondary students in career pathways. The Tech Prep program provides academic and vocational preparation in an specific career pathway by awarding community college credits to students earning an 'A' or a 'B' in the high school course. The number of credits awarded depend on the demonstrated competencies of the student.

COMPUTERIZED GRAPHIC DESIGN provides entry-and intermediate-level training in computerized graphic design. Students learn basic computer operations, employing page layout, illustration and photo-manipulation software; peripheral use, including scanners and plotters, and file-management integration. Instruction covers typography, design elements, color management, and hand-drawing techniques. The creative and technical process of project management also is taught, with an emphasis on concept-to-completion planning. 180 hours is needed to complete the course.
WEB SITE DESIGN provides students with entry-level training in Web-site management and design, and introduces them to career opportunities specific to the field. Students learn design concepts by developing Web sites, Web animation, and other Web-based products.
DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY OF CHILDREN This course provides training and upgrading of skills for entry-level positions in preschools or child-care programs, including licensed family day care. Instruction covers child development; child health, safety and nutrition; child guidance techniques, and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Working with children in child-care programs, students plan and present educational materials and activities related to language development, math, science, music, art, and motor development. Internships at preschools and elementary schools may be part of the course curriculum.
GREEN CONSTRUCTION DESIGN will teach students comprehensive design skills and concepts based on the elements and principles of design and applied through construction elements, using design and fabrication techniques that will have direct, relevant applications in the field. Students completing the course will have a familiarity with many of the basic job skills in the construction trades and will have applied them to creative problem solving in design projects. The physical products that the students produce will have the functionality of traditional shop projects, but will also demonstrate refined and diverse design concepts and applications.
