Career Technical Education

Career Technical Education(CTE)involves a multiyear sequence of courses that integrate core academic knowledge with technical and occupational knowledge to provide students with a pathway to postsecondary education and careers.

Career Technical Education facilitates students in making a successful transition from secondary education to college and career. The overriding vision is to incorporate 21st century skills that truly prepare students to succeed in post secondary education, the workplace, and community life, keeping America internationally competitive. The San Diego Unified School District's Career and Technical Education Program leads the District's efforts to improve student achievement via various initiatives.

Our Tech Prep programs focus on developing technical skills for secondary students in career pathways. The Tech Prep program provides academic and vocational preparation in an specific career pathway by awarding community college credits to students earning an 'A' or a 'B' in the high school course. The number of credits awarded depend on the demonstrated competencies of the student.
